Issue with effects
Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me out here. When I go to my Mixer and try to make changes to the instruments's settings, the only knobs that are making a difference are the VOLUME and PAN knobs. The REVERB and CHORUS knobs don't make a difference at all. The instruments all seem to have the same amount of reverb regardless of where I set their REVERB knobs.
The amount/sound of reverb does change when I make adjustments to the MASTER EFFECTS tab in the Synthesizer, but again, the individual knobs in the Mixer don't make any difference.
I'm using MuseScore 2.1 and the default soundfont for playback.
Does anyone have any clue as to what the issue could be?
Thanks

I just found some other threads that already talked about this.
I must say I don't understand why this was changed. Sure, I know that most people aren't going to use the MuseScore synth for a final rendering of a piece or anything, but it was sure nice to be able to hear a quick mock-up of something with the basic mix you wanted to hear. As I understand it, now the only way to do this is by using an external synthesizer, which is quite a pain.
Anyway ...

Not really. Keep your mscz file for major pitch and duration notation work, especially form, repeats, jumps etc. Export to Midi. I use synthfont for the flexibility of the buttons to adjust fonts and presets. Try not to change programs. (But you always have the original file to view) Now save the Midi file as an mczx file. (without form, repeats and jumps etc) What you have now are two files to play around with.
What you lose is the combination of Fluid/Zita which is quite nice. But I have fooled around with recording stereo pairs including the original file.
I have to also refrain from straying very far from the original pitch and duration.

Thanks for the response. I'm sorry, but I'm not following you.
What will this accomplish (exporting to MIDI and then saving as an mczx file)?
Thanks

Well, I guess my point was that using an external synthesizer is not a pain at least once I got used to it. Why do you need individual channel reverb and chorus for a quick mix? I suppose it would be nice. The interface is already there. The thinking is that a stereo mix of effects is sufficient for listening to basic orchestration.
The point of having another file (mscx) is that you don't mess with the score (mscz) unless you are willing to change it. It plays from start to finish like the midi file, opens in word pad, functions as a rough draft, literally represents duration changes that you wouldn't put in a score, but then in turn, doesn't change the existing Midi file. Playback Options.

Sorry .. I'm not trying to be rude. It's just that I'm not at that knowledgeable with regards to playing MIDI files in different ways.
I use Reaper as my DAW, and I record MIDI tracks on that all the time (it's on a different computer than the one I'm using now). I can also export the MuseScore files and play them with Reaper using my own VSTi's there.
But, as far as your second paragraph above, I don't really understand what you mean. I feel as though you're giving me credit for knowing something when I don't totally know it all.
For example, let's say I wanted to play back my MuseScore score with an external synth to hear different reverb levels on different instruments. Right now, the only way I know how to do that is to export the midi files, load them into Reaper, and then play them with my Garritan library, with which I can adjust the reverb on individual instruments.
That, to me, is way more of a pain than simply turning a knob in MuseScore to hear what it would sound like to have the horns drenched in reverb.
But by your second paragraph above, I get the feeling that you're suggesting another method, but I don't understand what it is. If so, could you possibly go through it step by step for me?
Thanks so much

You are way ahead of me on the audio. I am trying to visualize the score and collect all of the commands and events in data or graphical form. I have no way to play individual channel reverb and chorus except to record the audio chain using loopbeaudio. Exporting the Midi file won't give you Zita and Sc4.

...then record the next staff with a different setting and then....on and on. That would be a pain in the ass.

Hmm ... you've kind of lost me again. I don't think I'm doing a very good job of communicating what I'd like to. Don't worry about it; I don't want to take up anymore of your time.
I appreciate you trying to help out. Thanks!

You are too kind. Honestly, I don't Know how to fix it. It requires being a part of the development group that makes nightly builds. They have the knowledge of computer languages and the ability to instruct the synthesizer to add reverb to individual channels.
Tee hee, you guys make me smile. Thanks for the heads up on 2.1.
