How to create 12/8 time a 4 triplets

• Aug 28, 2009 - 10:08

Hi, I've been searching through the site and forums but bot found an answer to this one.

I want to create a score in 12/8, with each bar containing 4 triplets, but so far when I try to do this I always end up with 3 quadruplets. I want a rhythm of "123-123-123-123", not "1234-1234-1234". And manually editing each note into tuplets is a VERY slow way to work.

Would some kind person have any bright ideas on what I should try please? Can't find anything when searching for tuplets or time signatures that seems to fit the bill, nor in the general handbook.

Thanks, David :-)

Hi,

I tried to enter the 12/8s (for framedrum) and found that they are grouped automatically in 4 groups of 3. I tried also to change the groupings (just for fun) to 3 groupings of 4.

It works, although it is more of a workaround. You remove 4 eighth notes and replace them by a half note. After doing that you select the half note and choose a tuplet 4 over 4 without any numbers or brackets. Musescore will replace the half note by an eighth and three rests. If you then enter the remaining 3 eighth notes, they will be grouped by 4!

Funny although: if you introduce a time signature of (4+4+4)/8, the automatic groupings again will be 3+3+3+3. I guess this is not correct.
