Load/save style

Thanks for the help on this the other day. I understand the basic idea, but have difficulty finding a properly detailed specification of how this works.

The file I had problems with was from version 1.3?; so I did "Save style", and the resulting file is 60K bytes, or 2000 lines, which is not very accessible to manual editing or reading.

I manually edited an .mss file to remove everything except the top level node, and did "Load" into the score. This reset obvious style settings I had made. I then did a "Save" of the style, and this is 22K, or 600 lines, including gems like <lutefingering1stAnchor>4</lutefingering1stAnchor>. Where did all these settings come from? I'm assuming there are system defaults (or similar), then style settings, then changes made to specific items which are not relevant here. When you "load" a style, obviously any settings in it apply to the current score. If settings not present revert to the system default, why is it necessary to save any defaults in the style file?

Things are pretty vastly different between 1.3 and 2.x, so I wouldn't necessarily expect that transition to work seamlessly. I would recommend against using "Save Style" on a file create in such an old version. I also don't understand what you were trying to accomplish by removing everything from the resulting file. If the intent was to create a style file that represents 2.0 defaults, I'd recommend instead doing a Save Style from an empty score. That way anything that needs to be present is.

Anyhow, I don't know what might be going on when going through the somewhat unusual path you are choosing. You might try the experiment again with a more "normal" file and then see what questions arise.
