Unwanted popping noise with bass synth

I have written multiple scores using the bass synthesizer instrument and in all of them I get loud, random, periodic popping sounds and sometimes really bad static. I've tried with and without headphones and the problem has persisted for over a month. Am I doing something wrong, and if so, how can I fix it?
