"Z" on a Note in Drum Music
I need some help with one of the drum "Cadences" I found online.... I can't seem to figure out what this Z thing is on the note of a snare part... I'm thinking it might be a buzz?? Any percussionists want to lend a hand i'm new at drum music.... It's in the sixth bar of "Smokestack" and is on the last note.
Thanks in Advance

As a pianist, I understand those "zs" to be a "tremolo" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tremolo, although it may be different in drum notation. I would guess that it is a type of roll.

The z is a buzz roll on a snare drum.
The Z is for buzz roll indeed.
See:
http://drumrudiments.com/drum-rudiments/drum-lessons/multiple-bounce-ro…
for a (fascinating) demonstration. Also, see the notation and description halfway down the page.
Additionally:
http://www.pas.org/Libraries/PASIC_Archives/rudiment_1.sflb.ashx
shows the notation of 40 drum rudiments - #4 is the buzz roll.
Regards.
Thankyou all for the information!!! I now understand what this Z means!! Thanks so much!!
