Midi input select octave

Can I select which octave midi keyboard input appears in? If I have e.g. a high piano part that goes off the top of my keyboard, I can enter these notes an octave lower & then transpose. But it would be easier to play the whole part an octave lower than written and have them appear in the right place in my score.

Some midi keyboards has a button or switch, for octave up, octave down.

sometimes these buttons are on the sides (or placed in strange locations).

The midi note number of the pressed key is sending to software in this way.

Thanks very much for this - problem solved. My keyboard is not quite like yours, but does have an octave key to select the octave. I used to use Capella which has octave select in the software, but I'm sure I'll get used to doing it this way!
