MuseScore basics-Adding staffs to an existing score
I've looked and I've looked, but I cannot figure out how to add a line to an existing score--either at the beginning of the piece or in the middle somewhere. How is this done?!?

I suspect you mean add an instrument. The instruments dialog is found by pressing i.
