How to alter measures.

• Feb 18, 2018 - 19:02

Can I edit measures to make them include more than eight notes. I have a score which I would like to compose, but in order for it to sound good, there needs to be more notes in one measure than it can currently hold. Is there any way to fix this? Please give me an answer if you have one. Thank you.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with musical notation, but it sounds like maybe not much?

I would do some reading on the subject of time signatures. They are what control how many "beats" are in a measure. For example, 4/4 says there are 4 beats in a measure (the top number), while the bottom "4" says it is the quarter note that gets the beat. So you can either put four quarter notes in the measure, or two half notes, or one whole note - or eight eighth notes, or sixteenth sixteenths notes, or any combination of these.

Usually in music all measures have the same number of beats, but there are times when it makes sense to have some measures have more beats. So to do that, you change the time signature. MuseScore lets you do this easily - just add the desired time signature from the palette.

Hopefully this helps. If not, please attach your score and explain what you are trying to do in more detail.
