How do you do invisible rests.
pressing v isn't working
is their a way on the toolbar?

F8->Inspector
Select them and press V. As long as they remain selected, it won't be obvious that they are invisible, but as soon as you press Esc or otherwise clear the selection, you'll see they are invisible - greyed out on screen, but they won't print or export to PDF etc.
