On paste merged melody is 8va and chords (voice 2) disappear

So I wanted to merge a melody and a chordal accompaniment into the same treble clef but the result is the melody is 8va up and the chords disappear after I paste. I used the explanation detailed here: https://musescore.org/en/node/12345

How can I get the melody to stay in the register I want and keep the chords from disappearing. I'd like the end result for the chords to be slashes but figured I should get them into the same stave first. So, if I need to change them to slashes first then please advise.

That article is for a very old version of MuseScore, there are better ways fo doing things now. But in order to advise, we'd need you to attach your score and describe what you are trying to do in more detail. Basically, if the rhythms align you'll be able to use Edit / Tools / Implode, if not, you can use Edit / Voices / Exchange to move the contents of one part to voice 2 as described in that older article, then be sure to copy the voice 1 part to the voice 2 not vice versa, or use View / Selection Filter to control which voice gets copied.

Copy and paste doesn't change octaves, probably the part you are copying is not in the octave you think it is due to transposition - again, we'd nee you to attach the score in order for us to assist better. As for slashes, if you want them on the staff, have them in voice 1; if you want them above, have them in 3, below in 4, then run Edit / Tools / Toggle Rhythmic Slash Notation. It's actually easier to do this before trying to combine, but if you need to do it after, you can use the Selection Filter to make sure only that voice is changed.
