Writing a drum kit etude - How do I change a note from one drum to another?

• Apr 5, 2018 - 19:49

Hi! Just starting to transpose my piece from pencil & paper to Musescore 2 & having some troubles. I can't seem to find help in the manual or Youtube tutorials:

1) I want to transcribe the bossa kick drum/high hat pattern.....Kick on beats 1, the + of 2, 3, and the + of 4, with high hat on 2 & 4.....Musescore will only let me enter on the beats. I try to switch my note value to eighth note when necessary, and it's not letting me.

2) How do you change an entered note? I mistakenly entered a snare drum note, continued entering other notes, then noticed my error. Going back & trying to delete that note, or move that note up to the tom tom line just doesn't work!!!!

Help!!!

Thank you,

Carlos

Have you checked out the Drum Notation section of the handbook?

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to write a bass drum part and then layer the hi-hat over the top? To do this, you use Voices which you can think of sort of like layers. You can write the bass drum on voice 1, then select voice 2 and enter the hi-hat, and a snare on voice 3, for example.

About changing a note you've already entered, you can delete it (or press zero and it replaces it with a rest for whatever note value is currently selected) or overwrite existing. MuseScore does not currently support the ability to insert or delete notes and have the rest of the notes in the staff adjust.
