Use of D. S. al Coda

• Apr 26, 2018 - 03:45

In the uploaded file, the intent was to repeat A, play through B<, C, and D, then jump back to C and play to measure 11 (D) . At this point the score was to jump to E and play to the end. What actually happens is that A repeats as required. The playback continues through B, C, and D. At this point the playback should jump back to C, but it does not. Completely ignoring the DS al Coda, playback continues on through E to the tune end. The coda sign never comes into play hence no jump from D measure 11 to E measure 15. Lets Use D.S.mscz

If you want a coda symbol like you have and the playback like shoichi has you can put the coda symbol text into edit mode (double click it) and copy the symbol then put the "To Coda" into edit mode and paste it there. You must always insert the proper jumps from the palette, but you can change their displays to anything you want as long as you don't change the labels in the inspector.

Your original instructions:
The intent was to repeat A, play through B<, C, and D, then jump back to C and play to measure 11 (D). At this point the score was to jump to E...

My question:
Does the instruction -- play to measure 11 (D), include playing all of measure 11?

So far we have three attached scores:
1. "Lets Use D.S.mscz" -- your original score has a Coda symbol at measure 11 (D).
This should be a 'To Coda", so that playback jumps to the Coda symbol at measure 15 (E).
As explained by mike 320, if you want, you can change the "To Coda" text into a Coda symbol.

  1. "Lets Use D.SBis_.mscz" -- this score has the correct "To Coda" symbol and does the jump to measure 15 (E).
This version plays all of measure 11 (i.e. plays up to measure 12) before the final jump to measure 15 (E).

  2. "Lets Use D.S_2.mscz" -- this score has the correct "To Coda" symbol and does the jump to measure 15 (E).
This version plays to measure 11 before the final jump to measure 15 (E).

If neither of the last two are satisfactory, please explain why.
Also, in MuseScore, be certain that the toolbar button "Play repeats" is active.

Regards.

Thank you for your help, Jm6stringer and Shoichi. I did not have the repeat button turned on, and did not use the "to Coda". Now everything plays properly, including changing the one score to measure 10.
