playback is messed up

I'm trying to make a score but the play button is not black but it is more of a lighter gray what does this mean and how do I fix it

Sounds like probably MuseScore was unable to find the necessary audio device on your computer. What version of MuseScore (see Help / About), what OS, and what do you see in Edit / Preferences / I/O and in View / Synthesizer?
