2 queries (non-GM drumset and synth loading)

• May 27, 2018 - 18:24

1) Is it a common practice when editing a non-GM drumset to click on 'drumset' and then off again when entering note input mode. I have to do this in order to have the drum pallete remain on my screen with non-GM sounds in place? Otherwise, I crash the program.

2) Is it a common practice to have to close out the program and then open it again in order to load the synth with a new 'load to score' sf in order to avoid the last scores loaded sf?

1) I don't fully understand, but if you are editing a drumset, then yes, you need to open the drumset editor. If you are editing the music on the drum staff, you don't. Sounds like you are saying something different, though? Anyhow, crashes are not normal of course. Probably best if you attach a score and steps to reproduce the problems you are seeing.

2) Loading a soundfont applies to the program, not just one score. Otherwise MuseScore would be switching out soundfonts every time you clicked a different score tab and it would get very resource-intensive. But you don't need to close the program to change soundfonts. If you have two scores loaded that use different soundfonts, just load them both, and use the Mixer to make sure the one using the non-default soundfont uses the right sounds. Or switch which is listed on top when you switch scores.

Thanks Marc for answer to #2 and resource intensity. What I am trying to say is that I can't use the 'load from score' button after a single score has been loaded. The buttons are greyed out. The first score loaded greys out the tabs. But I found a way involving the step of loading the default when I open the program and get an 'untitled' page. Additional scores can then be properly loaded by going in and out of default rather than closing the program. The default has to be applied to each preceding score opened in order to free up the buttons. It will take practice and hopefully I remember to hit 'save to score' for the proper sf's.

I need to describe #1 better.

I believe Load from Score would be greyed out if there is nothing to do - if the score has no soundfont info, or if the soundfonts are the same as what is already loaded. But I confess I don't really understand how this works either, and things do seem "off". Feel free to get this down to a specific step-by-step description and submit it as a bug report.

I thought some of this might just be normal procedural practice. But now I am wondering again.

1) open two or three scores
(say, from file-->open recent)
2) click view--> synthesizer
(some sort of default may be loaded or not)
3) click tab 'load from score' for one of the scores

4) open one of the other scores

**(the load and save buttons are GREYED OUT)

The synth is loaded with the first score loaded. Setting the first score loaded as default does not un-grey the buttons.

But is that a bug?
