How did this happen? And how can I fix it?

I'm not sure how it happened, but ALL of my MuseScore files were converted from .mscx files to PDF files. Now, I cannot upload to Musescore these files. It's all rather frustrating.
What might have occurred? How can it be reversed?

It seems unlikely to have happened automatically.
Can you check (and attach a score here) if not only the extension of the files has changed?
This is what happened when I tried exporting a file from PDF-> .mscx, and then uploading that new .mscx file to the website.

Do you have mscz files? Or have been lost as you said (https://musescore.org/en/node/269894 )

According to the message, the file you tried to uplaod is an MuseScore file (.mscx). What leads you to believe it is actually a PDF? And what do you mean when you say you tried "exporting from PDF->.mscx"? There is program that can export MSCX from a PDF.
I'm guessing that what actually happened here is something totally different, like your file associations got changed so that MSCX and/or MSCZ files are now associated with a PDF reader on your computer, leading you to believe they are PDF files when they most likely are not. Might help to find someone who is really computer-savvy to help you out in person...
