Playback error on Mac OS High Sierra and Musescore 2.3.1

• Jul 20, 2018 - 16:39

Hi. So once in the past, and right now, I am trying out musescore 2.3.1 which is the most recent version for mac. Each time I try to play back an arrangement, I get this horrible screeching noise as it progresses and the program eventually starts to slow down pace until it sort of corrects itself. It's so bad that a score is unplayable on this version and I've found myself reverting back to 2.1 (2.0 I'm not sure which I was using). This most recent time, I decided to give 2.3.1 a second chance and it is still occurring. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the files being made on the old version, and something isn't translating to the new version. I'm currently writing a new score on the new version to see if I notice the same thing. I've looked for anyone facing this same issue, but I've yet to hear of anyone having my specific issue. I'll link the score below.

Firstly, thanks for your speedy reply! I didn't expect to hear from anyone that soon. Unfortunately, it still made that scratchy crackling noise. What kind of differences should I be looking for in the score, and where should I look for them? Is this something I'd see in the synthesizer?

Ive seen similar results with playback when you have long duration Ped and then throw a few crescendo 's in I end up with the same problem with sound distortion when I run out of CPU resources having a long Ped it seems to hog a lot of resources. depending on what sound font you use you can just notate the piece (with ped) and it will sound as desired and not hog the CPU...

as an update, 2.0.3 works, but 2.3.1 and anything in between has this same playback issue. Also, a score that I created with 2.3.1 had the issue as well. So it doesn't seem to matter what version the score originated from. The attached score was created with 2.3.1 and has playback issues there, but no playback issues on 2.0.3. Also, the Master Effects in Synthesizer was already set to Zeta1 as recommended by Shoichi.

Your Score Plays Perfectly on my Mac and it is a low end 2014 mini.
I tried it using Using Core Audio and Jack as the driver for the Synth Sound Output.

I have had Issues with different software upsetting the sound drivers and the sound hardware, i.e. not just an issue with Musescore per say. e.g. Using my DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) then swapping to Spotify then swapping to iTunes then VLC... Or trying to use a combination of any of those apps.

To stop upsetting Muse Score and My DAW so they can both work with each other I have been using a dedicated I/O USB device for muse score and since doing that I don't have any distortion of sound issues. I can have that issue when the computer runs out of resources so I close off everything I am not using when I want to use the machine as an audio workstation and only run the apps I need to do a given work flow activity. Hope some of this helps...
