loop playback
the last two measures of this score are rests... the loop kept ignoring the 4th beat of the last measure until i added the 'throwaway note' on 4...

Huh, I can confirm, and it's reproducible in a score created from scratch. The key appears to be that the loop has to include the last measure, and that last beat of that measure has to be silent. If so, it gets off.
Looks like this was reported a while ago as #148311: Loop playback doesn't count rests at end of final measure, and I confirmed it then too :-). Maybe someone who knows the loop code might want to take a look?
