Both Stable Release and Several Nightly Versions Crash on Startup

• Sep 28, 2018 - 20:39

I tried posting this yesterday but apparently it didn't go through.

I have a Windows 7 64 bit environment. Both the stable release version and two different nightly versions crash on start up. Usually, when I start the program I get a dialog box that asks if I want to restore a previous session. Regardless of whether I chose yes or no, the program then crashes. If I delete the sessions file, then I can get a splash screen, but as soon as the main program opens, it crashes. The only version I have been able to run successfully is Nightly 2018-08-0847. The other nightly versions I've tried don't even open the command prompt window before crashing.

In reviewing some other posts and the Issue tracker, this problem seems to have been going on for some time. Does anyone know of any solutions so that I can get the release version to run?

My best guess is that something is corrupt in your Scores folder and MuseScore crashes just looking at it. Try running from the command line (do a web search if you need learning how to do that) with the "-F" option to force a factory reset. Also check the Handbook under Known incompatibilities.

I tried running the program from the command line with the -F switch. I get the splash screen, the main window opens to a blank white page and then the program crashes. This happened the same way the very first time I ever installed the program so I'm not sure how corruption could have existed at that point. I've also read through the known Incompatibilities and none of them apply.

Tried both switches (separately) as suggested and each time I get a flash of the opening dialog box and then the popup regarding restoring the previous session. When I make a selection, the screen flashes and then the app crashes.

The other two Nightly versions I've tried are 2018-09-03-1216 and 2018-09-27-1449. Both do exactly the same thing and actually never even start the command prompt window like the 2018-08-21-0847 does. I've even tried running several of the problem versions with the -d switch and it crashes in the same manner.

I ran the Nightly version that will successfully run and I've attached a screen shot of the contents of the Command Prompt box that pops up when it runs hoping this might help. The first 5 lines are the result of the start-up of the program. The remaining lines are the result in opening the Musescore Preferences dialog box. musescore dialog.jpg
