Shortest stem length?
After setting Style>General>Edit Style>Notes>Shortest stem, should I expect that this value will only be observed by unbeamed note stems?
That is what happens. Beamed notes like eight notes ignore this value.
This is not highly important but I was surprised that this global setting seems to not be global in its effect.

The algorithm for beamed notes is very different indeed. This setting is for s different case, the progression of shortened stems that happen when you have notes above/below the staff with stems pointing away from the staff (eg, in a multiple voice situation).
