Beaming dotted rhythms

• Nov 5, 2018 - 01:58

I'm trying to change beaming on a group of four notes in a dotted eighth - sixteenth - dotted eighth - sixteenth rhythm. MuseScore wants to beam the first two separately from the second two. I'd like to beam all four, but the beam property tools don't seem to allow it. I can use them to change straight eighth notes between two and two to all four, but not dotted eighth - sixteenths; when I try the latter nothing happens.

I am using MuseScore 2.3.2 for Linux (having upgraded from 2.1, which had the same issue).

They all work the same. For individual notes, you apply the middle beam to any note you want beamed to the note before it. It will be beamed unless the note before it has no beam applied to it. If the note is beamed to the previous note, then the note does not have no beam applied to it. To change the entire score see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/time-signatures#change-default-beaming. You will probably have to read some of the stuff before it for everything to make sense.
