Pitch bends

How do you make the pitch of a note in instruments such as the guitar and flute bend down / up?

I had to research this too. Go to the main palette and find the articulations menu. Scroll down to bend (the curved up arrow with "full" written over it). Add that to your note. If you need to edit the bend, you'll have to click on the bend and View Inspector. It'll open the edit page. Scroll down and you'll see a drop down for the type of bend you want. There are 4 choices: Bend, Bend/Release, Bend/Release/Bend, Prebend, Prebend/Release and Custom. I usually use Custom. You'll see a graph representing those behaviors. Place the dots on the lines where they intersect and play back the note.

It's only been a year since you posted this, but the current version I have:

OS: macOS 15.5, Arch.: arm64, MuseScore Studio version (64-bit): 4.5.2-251141402, revision: ac9d3bc

has the "full bend" on the Guitar palette. I found it by searching for "bend" in the palette search box.
