Instruments are quieter than programmed.

• Dec 11, 2018 - 03:33

I am running MuseScore 2.3.2. The program worked fine until I wanted to try to see if I could read my friend's .MIDI file with it. It worked, but I guess the MIDI file had dynamics programmed that weren't displaying and that MuseScore picked up on.

I went back to working on my own project, and found that the piano had mysteriously gone quiet. If I put it on solo, it's still there, but barely audible. Even if I set it to triple forte, the piano can be barely heard. The weird part is if I go to a part of the music before I opened the MIDI file, and I play the piano from there, it sounds just fine.

I've tried resetting the program to factory settings, but it didn't do anything. I've also made sure the mixer is set to the same levels for everything. Any help would be appreciated.

Try to right click any note and choose Select->All similar elements. Look in the inspector (press F8 to see it) and look for the velocity field. If the round arrow to the right of the number is black, the click it and all should work. If the arrow is gray, then change the number to something it doesn't currently say and then click the arrow because it will turn black when you change the number. Hopefully this will fix the problem.

If this doesn't fix it, then I suggest you attach your score.

Hi,
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I just opened the music file again and remembered it was having this issue when I encountered it again. :(

I tried following your instructions, but it didn't seem to change anything about the sound quality.

Here's a video showing the problem. The score is also attached.
