Weird playback issues

• Dec 13, 2018 - 18:46

Hi, I am writing a score with a global time signature of 5/4, but it changes to 4/4 occasionally and back to 5/4. I have a single section of a single instrument playing back significantly slower than the other parts.

Specifically, I am hearing something along the lines in the recording from 12.8 seconds to 24.4 seconds in. The trumpet part slows down significantly and becomes out of sync with the main drumset part. I checked the measure properties, and MuseScore tells me that the measure(s) in question are 20/16 measures and not 4/4 measures, despite them being marked as 4/4 in the piece with a local time signature change. The problem is, I did the same thing later in the score and it is perfectly fine. How do I fix this issue?

That seems totally correct to me. In the first portion, the trumpet is in 4/4 while the drums are in 5/4, so its notes are stretched out accordingly, just as you asked it to when you created the local time signature. In the later passage, everyone is in 4/4 together, so no stretching is necessary and none is performed.

I listened to both versions and heard nothing odd. The time zone (12.8-24.4) you speak of has the trumpet in 4/4 vs percussion in 5/4. That's what I hear. Maybe you have an audio malfunction? As Marc said, the time in 4/4 vs 5/4 seems stretched out the way you've indicated it to be...sounds fine.
