Prob VERY OFF TOPIC? MS 3.x.x.x or any future development to 'read' Finale latest version?

• Dec 25, 2018 - 00:58

Finale Notepad 2012 now 'ancient' and no longer decodes Finales latest
internally changed format and wonder if any future implementation
considered as to MS 3 +++ to read/decode/decipher that format?

I used to use Notepad to convert Finale files to music type xml for the
few Finale files that did come my way. But since it wont do later versions
Im stuffed other than to purchase Finale which I dont like want or need
and it looks as if Print music which does at v 2014 does for $$ but that too
maybe 'sunsetted' and not worth my while for the few Finale files I do get.

I could of course get anybody who send Finale files to send as PDF or musicxml.
or ABC and/or whatever useful format it does export.

Thanks

Finale is a proprietary format, which means it's internals are not published. Importing these files could be problematic, so it's unlikely import of any finale formats will happen. MuseScore does import musicxml and ABC files, at least version 3 will import ABC files in the near future when plugs work again. You should ask those who send you Finale files to send you musicxml instead.

Again many thanks for your prompt reply Mike320.
Yep it looks as if Finale users will have to do
that to share with Non Finale users. Either
export in upto 2012 format or better music xml.

ABC format def useful import as there's a huge
heap of stuff - folk tunes e.g in ABC format.
Def test those two ABC and counterpoint plugins
when they get implemented. ;-)
Enjoy the day whereever you are.
