Parts and score not in same keys!!

• Jan 21, 2019 - 23:15

Everything was going well but then something weird happened. All the instruments in a concert band score got the same key signature - even those that transpose and when I chose concert pitch they all drop to a minor third below when they should be.

Take the Clarinet for example. Its key signature is F but what shows is the note that the player blows and the actual own would be 1 full tome below. This is how I put the music in. BUT chose concert pitch and the key signature becomes e flat. So somehow Musescore is reading the clarinet part as if is written for the play but with the wrong key signature F instead of G. This just happened without my doing anything. Even weirder Latest Version Brockville_Tunnel_March revised compressed.mscz is that the parts are correct!

You have gone through a lot of trouble to do what MuseScore does for you automatically. You manually transposed all of the instruments that needed it.

To properly enter a score with transposing parts, make sure concert pitch is NOT pressed. To double check, have a C instrument like Flute and transposing instrument like the Clarinet in the score. If they are in the same key, the concert pitch is pressed. Click concert pitch in this case and you'll see the instruments transposed. You can then either enter the notes using concert pitch or transposed pitch according to what you are doing.

In your score, when all of the instruments are shown in transposed pitch, they have the same key signature of F major. In the Parts, everything is as it should be, though I don't understand why.

After you get the score set up properly, create parts and everything will agree in transposition. I actually don't create parts until the score is entered, because some adjustments are passed from the score to the parts when created, but not if entered after parts are created.
