Font Sizes in Musescore 3 on Windows 10

• Jan 26, 2019 - 22:02

I installed Musescore 3 on a windows 10 machine and the fonts on the home page are too tiny to be usable. I had the same problem when I originally installed musescore 2, but I solved that by running the program in windows 8 compatibility mode, and since then it has worked just fine. However, doing that on musescore 3 did not resolve the issue. Ideas? Makatol

Use the command line option -D xx where xx is a good DPI for your screen. You can press the windows key + r to run musescore3 -D xx until you like the results. You can then right click the shortcut and place the appropriate -D xx after the quotes and it will always run that way.

Thanks. Very useful advice. For me a setting of D94 resolves the issue of the symbol sizes nicely. However, the fontsize of the text in all the menu items, and in dropdown menus such as the pallette menu did not change with the method bove, and are still much smaller than they were in musescore 3. Ideas?
As I mentioned I resolved the same issue on musescore 2 by running in MS8 compatibility mode, but that was a while back and maybe this time I am missing a step like deleting musescore 2 first, rebooting the machine after every step to clear caches, or something like that.

The presence of MuseScore 2 doesn't affect version 3. I know there's a setting that affects the font size for a specific program but I'm not sure what it is. In the shortcut Properties under the Compatibility tab there is a button that allows you to Change high DPI settings. I don't know how this works. You might google it or play with the settings to see if you can make it look right. This may remove the need for the -D command line option.
