Pedal markings going between staffs

• Feb 4, 2019 - 19:44

When I enter a pedal marking when there are only notes on the upper staff, the mark goes in between the staffs. If there is a run from one staff to the other without notes on both staffs at the same time, two pedal markings appear: one below the lower staff, and one below the upper staff. There should only be pedal markings below the lower staff.

For the composer of piano music, it's not a limitation, which is something the program can't do, but rather a defect, in that it's something the program is supposed to do and tries to do, but does wrong. The important thing, however, is whether it can be made to look right when printed out. With a half dozen clicks, or so, it can be.

To make it look right to the performer, the user has to delete the one between the staves (or, if they want the playback effect, make it invisible), select the one at the bottom, make the line invisible by selecting Inspector and unticking the box (which was automatic in version 2), double click the ped line, and extend it to where is should be. This is a workaround requiring several clicks/keystrokes that should be accomplished in one or two clicks, which I think is the intent of the program.

Don't get me wrong. This is a wonderful and powerful program that is one of the best I've found when it works right. I'm just trying to make it do what I believe it was intended to do, and what any serious composer would expect it to do.
