An issue with Alto Saxophone

• Feb 8, 2019 - 04:19

I need some help with an issue (or a misunderstanding on my part) that I'm currently experiencing. I have an alto sax part in my song, and when I look at the master sheet (all instruments, no parts), the alto sax part is in B Major (which is what I want), but when I look in the specific part, it shows the key signature as Ab Major and the notes are transposed. I don't if I'm at a misunderstanding or the program has a bug, but I'd like to either print a full page of the part in B, so if there's some way to do that then that's the type of response I'd like.

Without seeing the actual score I have to guess based upon experience.

My guess is that you manually transposed the sax part by ctrl+dragging the key signature to the staff. You are probably not aware of the function of the "Concert pitch" button. This allows you to alternate the view of the score between concert pitch and transposed pitch. You likely never pushed this button to see the automatic transposition that takes place when you have transposing instruments. The reason you are seeing the key of Ab is that there is not key of G# in MuseScore, so concert B transposed to Ab. You should see the same thing if you press the concert pitch button.

You may attach the score, and if you like I can fix the transposition problems you have.
