Upgrading to Musescore 3
I noticed there's a new version. Didn't see any way to upgrade from within 2.2, so I downloaded the latest version on my mac, but was surprised to find no instructions for how to upgrade there either. I installed it anyway, now I have two Musescore's. What am I missing here?

You're not missing anything. The two versions can happily coexist on your computer. For the most part, use version 2 for old scores and version 3 for new scores and keep the two scores in separate folders so you don't get them confused.

That's good. I don't think I'll have any problem keeping the scores for the two versions separate, especially since I haven't really done too much work yet.
