writing percussion patterns – how to write text on the left side of the stave?

Hi,

I am writing down patterns for frame drum. There are different types of strokes (for example dum, tek, snap), which, the way I'm doing it, are represented by the different lines of the stave. However, for further clarity I'd also like to add the names of the different strokes to the left side of the stave: for example dum next to the lowest line, snap next to the highest.

I managed to do this using the "stave text" function (where text gets added above a note) & then dragging each name from the top of the stave to the left side. But this cannot be the right way. It gets messed up every time I change the format of the page etc. Is there a better way to do it? I didn't find anything here in the forum.
