Beams of more than three 1/8s make beam lower
When increasing the amount of 1/8 notes in a beamed group from 2 to 3, the beam gets lower (see my two screenshots). Is this expected behaviour? This doesn't happen with other durations.

I guess you are talking about the specific case where all the notes are the same pitch? Rules for determining stem lengths and beam angles are extremely complicated, and fairly subjective as well. Which is to say, there is no one right answer, and thus no particular "expected" behavior - just a range of acceptable ones according to the conventions of music engraving.
