Direct entry of small notes
To enter a section of cued (small) notes I enter them as full sized notes then go back and use shift>right arrow to select the cued section, then right click on a note then select>'all similar elements in range selection' then view>inspector and check the 'small' box under the note section. This works fine, but is there a way to toggle small note size/normal note size for direct note entry?

No. You can also select groups sections of the score by clicking the first note and shift + click the last note, particularly if it's larger.
