How to save a score layout for reuse

• Apr 25, 2019 - 18:59

Hi - I'm new to MuseScore so I'm finding my feet. I have the handbook and I've had a look on here, but I can't find how to keep a score layout and reuse it. I have a lot of midi files that all come into MuseScore fine but I want to apply the same formatting to all of them (e.g. part names, clef choices). I could apply the changes to each file but it will take a very long time - there are 250 files - and it seems like there must be a simple way to do it as MuseScore is blowing my mind in every other way. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide

I think in your case, I would set up my score and save it as a template. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/create-new-score#user-templates-fol… for more info.

I would then import the midi into a score, create a new score based upon the template, then copy and paste the notes into the new score. (ctrl+a, ctrl+c to copy then select the first measure and press ctrl+v to paste). Unfortunately there is no way to import a score into a template. And the fact you want to assure the instrument is the same prevents you from just using save style the load style into the imported score. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/layout-and-formatting#save-and-load… for more info.

Thanks for coming back to me so quickly. I tried doing it as you suggested and it half worked - the impported midi notes changed the clef selection. However, with the tips you gave me I figured out how to just delete the notes from my existing score and paste in the new notes. That doesn't change the clef selection and is quicker because I don't need to go through the create score dialogues. Once again, thanks for your help.
