Bug? Adjusting stem thickness adjusts beam length not stem

• May 7, 2019 - 13:26

I am trying to set the default note stem thickness for a particular score. However, adjusting "Stem Thickness" under Style>Notes increases beam length not steam thickness.

Also, some variables in Style have a reset button, some don't: For example, "Slurs/Ties" variables are resettable but "Note" ones aren't. Why the inconsistency? Perhaps, that Musescore 3 feature enhancement wasn't completed?

My system.
OS: Windows 10 (10.0), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.1.0.6715, revision: 526f80e

Stem thickness works fine for me in both 3.0.5 and current master (3.1). Can you attach the score you are having trouble with? Also not sure what you mean "beam length" - you mean the distance between two beamed notes? I'm not seeing any effect on this.

Some style settings are dependent on the music font you have selected, so that might have something to do with why some settings get a rest button and others don't.

See attachment. Still, when increasing stem thickness the beam connecting notes extends, overhangs past the last note stem, instead of increasing the stem thickness. Interestingly, it seems to be specific to this score. The other two scores I tested didn't have the problem--increasing stem thickness worked properly.

Before increasing stem thickness:

After increasing stem thickness (beam length changes not stem):

It looks like you explicitly overrode the thickness somehow - click a stem and look at the Inspector. Right-click one, Select / All Similar Elements, hit the reset button next to stem line thickness, and then they start responding normally. This is by design - customized settings are not supposed to respond to style changes. My guess is you only meant to customize the stems on the top staff, to get the effect of the long thin vertical lines (clever, btw!)

BTW, the beams are getting wider in response to the wider stems they think the notes will be getting, rather than the thinner stems they are actually getting. That much is indeed a bug.
