Convert & export in BMML

• May 14, 2019 - 13:48

Hi Peoples,

I am a chorister at my local chuch. I produce scores & lyrics documentation for "specials" i.e. Choral Evenings & carol services.
One of our choristers is visually impaired but is able to read BMML the Braille extension to .MusicXML

So please is it possible to include the facility to Export // Import as .BMML?

(perhaps a "Plugin" may be written)?

The visual impaired of this world are a very small minority... but many are blessed with remarkable hearing and vocal talents, it would be super to give them better access to the joys of music

Thank you.

It seems to be not a very small task to add such native support into MuseScore. Many developers have been outspoken about at least wanting to increase accessibility, supporting screen readers, etc.. that this might have a chance of making it into musescore eventually.

Until that time you might have a viable workaround by exporting from MuseScore as MusicXML, then use the Music4VIP online converter to generate your BMML file

I run the https://musescore.com/openscore-braille account. My main goal is to make it as easy as possible to have MuseScore scores that can easily be transferred using as many braille programs as possible. Fell free to check it out and let me know if there is something we can do to help with the process.

There has been discussion of adding native support for Braille export from MuseScore, but there is the issue of someone taking the time to write a lot of code to do this. There is no active project ongoing in this matter (that I know of), but I continue to advocate for export from version 3 that permits easy conversion to Braille. Unfortunately there are still some problems with this and I will continue pushing for improvements in this area when I believe the time is right.
