Note spacing and beam length

I manually adjusted the spacing between two notes in the inspector using the offset X option (I changed it to .60sp to line up with some text underneath it), but it's an eighth note and the beam no longer connects to the stem; there's a gap. I can't figure out how to extend the beam length; the offset X in the inspector for the beam element does nothing, and neither do the local relayout grow options. Suggestions?
