Writing shakes/tremolo
I am trying to write a shake, but I am unable to get Musescore to accept the dotted minims. Is there a way of doing this?
The attached file T shake1.jpg shows the original 90 year old handwritten score. T shake2.jpg shows my effort with the correct notation handwritten underneath it.

There are two types of tremolo, those on a single note (through stem) and those between notes.
Write the notes at half duration, apply tremolo between them, notated duration will double to match.
