Playback of only chosen instrument

Is it possible to playback only certain instruments in a score, rather than all?

The proposed method works perfectly well. However, it would be nice a way to be able to play a selection, which would be especially useful if besides there were a method to make persistent multiselection. This would allow to highlight some meaningful portions such as a theme or motive that goes from one instrument to another while the original instrument keeps playing background material. The mixer method doesn't allow this since it soloes a complete instrument (or set of instruments), not the instrument playing that particular line.

Yes, of course. By means of some combination of keys, probably a function key, or the Alt key, we could engage a state in which each selected region persists until the state is reverted, in which case all selections are lost. It would be necessary to discuss what operations would be licit to perform over the selected region, but one of them could certainly be playback, starting from the earliest selected region (over the time line) and ending at the latest selected region, and playing only the selected material.
Word processors such as Word allow multiselection by pressing Ctrl while highlighting with the mouse. In MuseScore, Ctrl selects the whole system for each selected measure, Shift selects a region of adjacent staves defined by opposite corners, and Alt seems to be available.
