How to remove note names to change noteheads?

• Sep 11, 2019 - 21:44

Hello, in the piece of music I'm working on, the majority of it will have the note names within the noteheads. But for one measure that involves tapping out a rhythm on the instrument instead of playing the notes, I need to remove the note names from those couple of notes in order to change the noteheads to a different shape for rhythm only. How do I do this?

You can use a "staff type change" from the text palette ("S" icon). Add it to the measure where you want the change, then select it and use the Inspector to change relevant settings.

Crashes are always bugs, so yes. But I can delete staff type changes just fine, so in order to investigate we'd need you to attach your score and steps to reproduce the problem.

There is a known bug involving a crash on load if a score has a staff type change on the very first measure. There is a fix pending for the next release.

It's not doing it anymore. I was able to delete the S. However, there are definitely random bugs popping up with that S. (random measures a page before the selected measures getting affected) Been a battle to get it all straightened out. But it's not anything that is predictable so I can't share that.

What you describe wth measures before the change being affect I have seen too, I think it happens if you insert or delete measure or change time signature in such a way that now the location of the element changes. I think internally we aren't updating the info about the ranges properly. Those problems tend to go away if you save and reload. I haven't quite pinned it down specifically enough to report it as an official issue or try to fix it.
