Channel Names Getting Scrambled After Exporting as .MID

Hello. First off, I've tried to understand this site and I'm totally confused, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask about this.
So recently I've received ripped MIDIs from a DS game, but their channel names are off. Like it should be Trumpet, but it comes up Fretless Electric Bass. So I found out what the channels originally were, which took a lot of time, renaming all the channels the correct "Trumpet" and "Strings" and such, (and I was hoping it'd fix the drumset problem too. The drumset turns itself into "string synthesizer", which is bad because I need for it to be a normal drumset channel and recognized as that at first. if I set it as a drumset via Mixer while it's still called String Synthesizer it's just spam cowbells when it should be marching drums.)
So, I fix all the names and export the fixed up file as a new .MID. And then I open the new file, and all the names are scrambled. Again. Except for Timpani. Drumset was set as Piano, so it still doesn't sound right.
I've tried two other possible MIDI editors to fix the channel names, and they don't do it.
Can Musescore just not change channel names? Is there a trick or something I'm missing? Mostly what I need is how to set the drumsets as a normal drumset channel. (Again, it needs to be recognized as one, checking the box next to "drumset" in Mixer doesn't work.) I can manage with the off-names for everything but the drumset, but it would be nice to fix them.
Thank you.

In order to understand and assist, we would need you to attach one of the files you are having trouble with and to give us precise steps to reproduce the problem. It's not clear right now, for example, if you really just mean the staff names that MsueScore displays, or if you mean the part name as displayed in the Mxier, or the actual playback sound used, etc.

Do realize that MuseScore is a notation editor and that MIDI does not contain most notation information, so much information is always lost when importing or exporting that format in MuseScore.
