Moving Notes in a Chord

• Oct 17, 2019 - 17:00

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I'm writing a song and it involves moving notes. For example, you could have a C as the top note in a chord, and say you have an F on the bottom, or a B on top with an A on the bottom. I'm trying to make the chord even out. The C and F works fine, but for and ending chord I would want the F to change to an E. The B and A attack each other in the chord, so I would want the A to move down to a G# or G to even it out. How do I do this without ruining the chords? Because when I try to change the bottom note to a different note, the top changes as well. Also forgive me if this post is hard to understand. I've been forgetting basic musical notation and technical terms.

Click only the notehead for the note you want to change if you don't want to change all of the notes in the chord. You can then use either arrows or ctrl+alt+arrows to move the notes by half steps or diatonic steps.

If you want to change the entire chord and keep in aligned with the current key signature, use ctrl+alt+arrows to move all of the notes. Using only the arrow moves all of the notes by 1/2 steps and these may not make sense.
