Alto Sax in Db?

• Oct 30, 2019 - 01:10

I'm working on a score in E major, but I would like the alto sax part to be in Db instead of C#. Is there any way around this in MuseScore 3? TIA!!

This is the reason it takes two transpositions. One to a key with Flats, then one by interval to the correct key. Since you can't select a key with a double flat, change the key to Eb (concert pitch of Gb), then transpose a major second down to Db.

steveblower's suggestion works the same except he told you to transpose below the desired key then up.

The How To in https://musescore.org/en/node/260491 DOES work. What it is saying is that you can't transpose enharmonically TO a key signature that would have double sharps or flats. This is not what you are trying to do.

In your case do this:

  1. Select everything in the part

  2. Tools->Transpose. Transpose down by key to Db with "Transpose Key Signatures" ticked. This should give you a key key signature of two flats in the transposed part.

  3. Tools->Transpose. Transpose up by interval a minor third. with "Transpose Key Signatures" still ticked. This should give you a key signature of 5 flats as required.
