Pre-set rests in a new document do not adjust and cannot be deleted
The handbook states that when entering new notation into a new piece, the pre-set rests will automatically adjust to the correct amount of time needed per measure. However, I am working on a piece in 4/4 time and when I add notes or rests, the whole rests that were pre-set into each measure do not adjust, go away, and are not able to be deleted. How do I correct this issue?

In your attachment the duration of the measures are changed. Which input mode did you use?
It sounds like you switched to insert mode that adds notes to the measure rather than the default (Step-time) input mode. You will either see a dot with a bracket of some sort around it or a fancy N on the toolbar. The N shows you are in default input mode. Click the dot with a bracket and select the correct input mode.
