Hearing notes as I input them
I'm not sure what is going on, but musescore will not allow me to listen to the chords I have already placed, nor will it play the notes aloud as I place them on the score. Any suggestions?

Do you mean there is just no playback at all, not of any notes on any score? If so, then see https://musescore.org/en/node/96811
