changing the beam direction lengthens the beam

Hello,

I've searched for an answer, but I guess I'm not searching for the right terms.

I have a beamed group that I would like to change directions. However, doing so causes the space between the first 2 notes to increase, and I don't want that.

There is an invisible note in the second voice, but when the beam is up, the note is on top of the invisible one. I want this to happen when the beam is down. When the beam is down, the note shifts to the left of the invisible one. I do not want this.
