I assume you mean 1-line percussion? They are added but don't show because they are zero hieght. Increase number of staff lines temporarily (right-click, Staff Properties), then you can adjust the bracket. It's a known issue.
Not totally sure what kind of shrinking you mean. To make ll staves smaller, see Format / Page Settings, the Scaling / Staff space setting. If you mean just making things more closely spaced, the global setting is in Format / Page Settings / Measure / Spacing. Or, you can select individual measures or ranges of them and use Format / Stretch / Decrease Layout Stretch, which reduces spacing one "notch" at a time.
