Score Causes MuseScore to Crash

• Feb 8, 2020 - 02:10

Hello all, I have a very confusing problem that hopefully someone else has seen before and can provide some insight as to why this is occurring or how to fix it. I have a score (Attached below) that I have been working on for about a week and so far is has not had any issues until now. The problem is that this score consistently causes MuseScore to crash on my computer. There is no indication of the file being corrupted, pop up notification or otherwise, and everything seems normal upon opening it. However, after just a few moments of either playing the score or just scrolling around, MuseScore crashes. I was able to upload this score to my page and it seems to have no issues with playback on the website. (I have it set to private because it is incomplete and also a work for a high school marching band) I even tried downloading the file from the website and opening it, only to see the same issue again, so it must be an issue with the score and not the individual file. Any help/insight is greatly appreciated, thank you.

I just opened it in MuseScore 3.4.2 on Windows 10 and played it all the way to end with no problems.

Then I went back to the beginning and played it again. Crashed at measure 50.

Hopefully one of the developers will drop in and help you out.

I submitted a crash report with a link to this thread. Hopefully one of the developers will drop in and help you out.

I tried what you suggested. The piece has now been playing on a loop at 300% speed for over ten minutes without crashing.

This fixes OP's problem, but I think the initial crash should still be investigated. MuseScore should not be producing corrupted files, and it should be able to recover gracefully from any corruption that it encounters.
