delete initial rests
All the scores seem to start out with whole-note rests in each bar. How do I get rid of these in one action? I am trying to start a score where the first measure begins on three beats of rest, but this whole-note rest makes it more difficult. Thanks.

Click right on the measure, choose "measure properties" and set "actual beats" to 3.
But, to be clear: you wouldn't normally delete the default rest, you just start entering your own notes or rests, and they replace it. In no way should the default rest make anything more difficul; the process of entering your own notes and rests would be absolutely identical either way. So, if you want to start a measure with, say, half rest, quarter rest, eighth rest, just go to note input mode and enter those rests - 6 0 5 0 4 0.
