Mid-staff instrument change name

Hello,
for a document that I am working on, I have portions where, for one example, flutes II and III switch to piccolo. But after the transition, I cannot change the forcefully altered names. (Both are just called "piccolo" and abbreviate to "picc.") is there some way that I am not seeing to make them stay as "Flute II/III" in the staff?
(I do not like to abbreviate names.)
