free upgrade of songbook app from ver 2 to ver 3
A friend had purchased and installed version 2 of musescore songbook on an android phone and wanted to upgrade for version 3. I heard that this is free of charge because version 2 had a lifetime license, right?
But how to do it. We installed version 3 but whenever we try to open the songbook it wants us to purchase a new license.
What do we have to do?

Indeed, if you purchased the old mobile app (which was a one-time payment) you're entitled for a live-time subscription for the new mobile app. At least it used to be that way.
You only need to log on to the new app using the same account you used when purchasing the old one (your Google account I guess). It is a bit tricky to get to that dialog, and it is too long ago for me to remember the exact details, but you'd need get past those dialogs reg. purchasing a pro subscription and then get to the account/login settings in the profile.
You should then be greeted with:
We've renewed our payment/subscriptions system, but, as you have already been using MuseScore, you are getting free lifetime access to all features of the app.
(And I just verified: that string still is in the app)
